Armadale Clubs and Associations
I would like to include details about the history of some of our well-established clubs. If you have any details that would interest our readers, please let me know. This page is only as reliable as the information it receives. Updated 19 December 2009 |

Clubs and Associations: Introduction At present, this page contains tables showing activities with venues, times / days / dates and contact details. The Noticeboard page also contains information about some Armadale Events and Meetings.
Please note that some clubs / organisations may have changed their details. You are advised to phone or e-mail the club representative to check on venue, starting date and time. During holiday periods, clubs may be in recess. There is always up-to-date information about current events in Armadale, and surrounding areas, in the Community News section of West Lothian Courier (20-22 King Street, Bathgate, 01506 633544). |

VENUES There are a number of venues for meetings and the many activities that take place around Armadale, (described later on this page). One of the main venues is Armadale Community Education Centre, which is closed at present for refurbishment, but Kath Brown, Armadale Community Centre Manager, is operating temporarily from St Anthony's Social Club, 59 South Street, Armadale, and she can be contacted 8am - 4pm on 07766441553 about activities that would normally take place in the Community Centre. Below are listed some of the activities that would normally happen at the Centre. I have added alternative arrangements where known.

Secretary, Frank Curle: 01506 844 145 fj.curle or to Club President, Joseph McIndoe at Barbauchlaw Mill: 01501 730 988 Bathgate Curling Club was formed in 1811 and it is one of the oldest curling clubs in the country. Our bi-centenary is in 3 years' time, and so we have been playing for nearly 200 years! As the home of curling is Scotland, we have a long history of winning many major tournaments, including an Olympic Gold medal, at World and European levels. Our Club has a number of members who have played at the highest level and who have won. One of our members has won the Men's Senior Trophy; and one of our lady members has won the Scottish Mixed Seniors for three consecutive years. Two lady members have been runners-up in the Scottish Ladies Seniors, and they were also in the rink which won the prestigious Henderson Bishop Trophy. One of our rinks went on to the Province Finals for Scotland. Two of our members are qualified coaches and they would be willing to give pre-season coaching to prospective new members prior to next season's commencement in October. The Club draws its present pool of players from a fairly broad area around Bathgate, (from Armadale, Bathgate, Blackburn, Blackridge, Linlithgow, Fauldhouse, Westfield and Airdrie). Members are usually able to provide transport to non-drivers. We would be particularly interested in recruiting younger male and female members. As our Club has a mixed membership, we try to play balanced mixed teams wherever possible. |
